about littlelotus

littlelotus was born out of a need to express my own creativity in a productive way. In producing hand dyed fibres and yarns, I not only get to explore my own love and passion for colour, but I also get to pass my product on to someone else to become part of their creative process.

about me

Born and raised on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, I lived in Sydney for a few years before moving to Brisbane to be with my partner David. I’m a city girl with a country/coastal heart and a diverse ethnic background; I’ve worked for multinational corporations and tiny start-up companies, doing everything from project management, training and development, IT support, customer service, and even taking out the garbage!

I learned to sew, knit and crochet when I was a kid, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I got back into crafting and now I can’t get enough of it. When I’m not scrubbing dye off my hands I can generally be found at my spinning wheel, refining my skills and creating yet another laceweight yarn that I have no time to knit into the beautiful shawls I imagine as I’m spinning. If I’m not spinning, then I’m either browsing patterns and forums on Ravelry or straining my eyes and back at the sewing desk working through my fabric stash.

about the name

In case you’re interested, my name, Thamara, is taken from the Tamil word for lotus, ‘dhamarai’, and I’m the youngest of five children in my family and also somewhat diminutive in stature, hence the ‘little’.
